Household
Bath Cleaner
Cut a lemon
in half and dip the cut surface in a little
salt in a saucer. Rub over the surfaces of
the bath, and rinse well with cold water
Baking Soda
also works well as a gentle scourer. Simply
sprinkle and wipe, then rinse.
Carpet Cleaner
Fill a 1.5
litre bottle with cold water. Add 2
tablespoons white vinegar and 2 tablespoons
of a liquid wool or clothes washing
solution. Place the lid on and turn end to
end slowly to blend - shaking it will create
masses of bubbles. Mark the bottle, and keep
this handy for cleaning spills on carpets.
To use: Pour a liberal amount of the liquid
on the mark/spill and use an old towel to
push lightly at the mark, without rubbing.
Use the towel to absorb the liquid. Repeat
if necessary until the mark is gone. Then
saturate the area with the solution, place a
thick folded towel on top, and stand on the
towel. This will absorb the liquid - move
the towel and stand on it again if needed.
Once the liquid is absorbed, the carpet
won't look damp and won't take long to dry.

Vinegar
works well, leaves glasses streak free.
Dishwashing
liquid
1/4 cup soap
flakes (I use lux), 2 cups hot water, 1/4
cup glycerine, & 1/2 tsp lemon essential
oil. Dissolve the soap flakes in hot water
and cool to luke warm, stir in glycerine and
oil. Mixture thickens as it cools. I found
this mixture too thick & gluggy so I use
just over half the amount of soap &
glycerine - this makes a consistency much
closer to commercial dish wash.
Floor Cleaner
1/4 cup
white or malt vinegar to 1 litre warm water.
Dip your mop, sponge mop, or cloth, etc.. in
this, remove most of the water, and wash
your floors. Rinse by mopping with a new
solution, and leave to dry.
Friendly Toilet Disinfectant
Put white
vinegar in a labelled spray bottle and add
a few drops of of your favourite essential
oil (3-10 drops according to your sense of
smell :). Shake to combine. Spray toilet and
then swish with toilet brush. Leave a few
mins, swish again then flush loo. Some
essential oils are also good antibacterial &
disinfectant. E.g. lemon & mandarin
Homemade
Cleaning Wipes
1 round baby
wipe container* 1 roll of paper towels** 2-4
cups cleaning solution (homemade is fine)
Recycle a
used round baby wipe container. Cut a roll
of paper towel in half, (an electric or
serrated knife works best for this.) Remove
the center cardboard. Place 1/2 of the paper
towels in the baby wipe container. Pour
cleaning solution into the container.
The amount
will depend of the absorbency of your paper
towels.) This can be used for window
cleaner, all purpose cleaner, or
disinfectant cleaner. Pull the first paper
towel out of the center of the roll, through
the hole in the container lid. If the paper
towels dry out before they are all used add
more solution or some water.
*If you
don't have a baby wipe container, you can
use a round plastic container and just drill
or punch a large hole in the center of the
lid.
**It is best
to use expensive, thick paper towels. The
cheap ones won't hold up to scrubbing.

Homemade Laundry soap for Washing Machine
1 cup grated
soap (use Pure or Sunlight as they are less
likely to cause any allergies), 1/2 cup
borax, 1/2 cup washing soda crystals.
Mix together
the soap & washing soda & give a whizz using
metal blade in food processor or blender.
Mix in borax and store in a labelled jar.
Use 1 Tbsp for a small load or 2Tbsp for a
normal to large load. Can mix in a little
hot water before adding to machine.
Laundry
detergent
In a 2 litre
bottle put 4 tblsp washing soda crystals &
1/4 cup usual washing powder or detergent.
Shake to dissolve. Add 1/2 cup white vinegar
& fill with water to make 2 litres. Use 1/2
to 1 cup to each load depending on size
etc.
Mould Remover for Ceilings, Window Frames,
etc
1/4 cup malt
or white vinegar to 1 litre warm water.
Saturate a cloth in this and squeeze out
surplus liquid. Use this to wipe ceilings,
around windows and frames, etc.. rinsing the
cloth well and making more solution when
needed. Rinse by wiping with a clean cloth
with freshly made solution on it. You can
also use this around showers and baths,
after you've cleaned them. This solution
will help to prevent any mould or mildew
from growing on the surfaces you've cleaned
using this. Outside house walls, etc, that
are prone to having mould growth - ie. the
south sides of a house, can also be cleaned
with this. The vinegar in the solution works
to help prevent more mould growing.

Why buy
expensive products, simply dilute an amonia
based cleaner such as Handy Andy in an old
trigger bottle, for regular household chores
I use half a capful to a normal size trigger
bottle.
